Welcome to Deerfield Elementary Reading Department
Your child may receive additional academic support in English Language Arts as part of our commitment to supporting student achievement. Students in Grades 1-5 who require additional support may receive Academic Intervention Services (A.I.S.). Parents will receive a formal notification if their child qualifies for this service. Kindergarten students will participate in an early intervention literacy program with our Academic Support Teacher on a rotational, as-needed basis.
A.I.S. instruction is typically delivered in small-group settings outside the classroom, allowing for targeted support from our reading specialists. In some cases, reading teachers may also provide in-class assistance to reinforce learning. Ongoing collaboration between reading specialists and classroom teachers is a key component of our program, ensuring that each student receives comprehensive, individualized support.
Our Literacy Support Team:
AIS Reading Teachers: Miss Ciotti, Mrs. Webster and Mrs. Zabek – Provide literacy instruction for students in Grades 1-5, focusing on strengthening reading and writing skills.
Academic Support Teacher: Mrs. Chevrier – Works with Kindergarten students to develop foundational early literacy skills.
Reading Teaching Assistant: Mrs. Spina – Supports first-grade students in building essential literacy skills and provides targeted fluency interventions using timed reading passages.
